Day One on the road

Once Jim Griffith received the news about the bike being released he immediately left Wales and we met in London.  We intend sharing accommodation along the way - our first night together - not sure who snores the most.

This morning, after a sleepless night, we crossed the channel via the Euro Tunnel.  Thirty minutes later we were in Calais, France.

The train journey was interesting.  Vehicles queue up and wait their turn.  There are actually two tunnels and several trains.  They appear to arrive every thirty minutes or so.  Once getting the green light we rode onto the train and had to remain with our vehicles.  Each carriage has two tiers which takes about four motor cars.

The terminal itself was very busy with queues of heavy vehicles waiting their turn.  We must have been lucky because we paid for your tickets and ten minutes later we were on our way.  No trucks on our train - there must be different trains for the big trucks and coaches.

Our plans have changed a bit.  Having lost a few days and the weather doesn't look like improving we have decided to travel across western Europe as fast as we can.  Jim and I have both travelled through western Europe.

We rode into Belgium at a fast rate of speed - had to keep up with the traffic - of which there is heaps.

So far everyone from the service station attendant to the hotel receptionist speak fluent English - just as well.  We found a small hotel in a small Flemish town - neither of us have a clue what the town's name is.  We saw heavy dark clouds and turned off the motorway calling it a day.

PS.  The area where we stayed overnight was on the outskirts of a town called Aalst, Belgium.
