Crossing into China

Crossed into China day before yesterday.  The weather was on our side and the journey was fun and interesting.
As a group we decided to hire a local man who could assist us through the three Kyrgyz police and border checkpoints.  He proved to be invaluable because of language skills.
We headed off at 6.30am for the one hundred and ninety kilometre journey to the border.  First section of road was newly sealed but after the first check point it was gravel, rock, sand and mix of all three.
The last Kyrgyz and first Chinese check point is at the Torugat Pass.  We arrived early and had to wait for the Chinese guide to show up as we couldn't cross the border without him.  We allowed ourselves plenty of time because we didn't know what sort of road and weather conditions we would be confronted with.  We could not have asked for a better day with the sun out and the roads being dry.

It was bit of a party atmosphere at the border check point once we arrived with everyone in high spirits.  This was a big moment for everyone.  The culmination of all our planning and riding to get here.  It is not so long ago that this type of trip, a self drive relatively independent touring, was not allowed.  A big thank you to the Chinese authorities.

We got there safely and our vehicles intact.  Our guide, Lun Wang, had to arrive at the border with the papers authorising our entry.
