Istanbul - World Heritage sites - Museum.

Today we visited the Dolmabahce Palace, Basilica Cistern and the Archaeological Museum.  Yesterday we tried to get into the Hagia Sophia and the queue went for several hundred metres but that was nothing like today when it was twice as long.

So we were not prepared to wait and we didn't get the chance to see what is reputed to be an extraordinary interior.

Plenty to see at the museum.



The history of this area goes back thousands of years BC.  When European tribes were wearing animal skins people in this region had written language, art, science and culture.  The Egyptians, Romans, Persians, Arabs and just about everyone else have added another layer to the history.



Some pieces of the pottery and crockery have survived the against the odds.
